Money is not always an important factor, although it is quite important. With the recent changes in the economy, the main driving factor for management staff and employees is job security. It is important to convey the honest truth about the success of the company. These people need to hear that they are not at risk of being laid-off, and that they will still have the same professional opportunities that were available to them before the struggles of the economy began.
It is also important to involve your employees, at any level, in the decisions that are made for the company. In the same breath, you should also listen to your employees. Often, as people who are familiar with the inner workings of your company, the can provide you with helpful opinions.
Your management staff also needs reassurance they will not lose any of the control that their position currently has. They need to believe that their decisions as executives of the company will not be disregarded or deemed unnecessary.
It is very important that a high morale of your employees be maintained at all costs. If your employees know that their positions aren't being down sized, they will continue to provide excellent performance. If they believe that the success of the company is ultimately in their hands, they will have a higher motivation to ensure that their jobs do not go anywhere. Your employees need to know that they only benefit when the company is successful. If you offer extra incentives to your employees for repeatedly high performance levels, such as a bonus based on productivity, you will provide even more motivation. Ultimately, your company benefits from the small amount of extra effort that you apply. Your employees will be happy, and they will respect you for entertaining their concerns.
On a more personal level, motivation efforts should coincide with the efforts that were made during hiring. If you conveyed that you reward high productivity with bonuses, it is important that you follow through with this. After all, it may have been the determining factor of why the employee is even working with you to begin with. You can also use hiring in a different manner. If employees see that you are interviewing for new positions, they will gain the extra confidence in their own job security and doubt the future of the company less.
