Kaneohe is 12 miles northwest of Honolulu, making it an ideal location for the commuter. Morning drive times into town take about 30 minutes from Kaneohe, as opposed to the 60 or more minutes from the west side of Oahu. The shortened drive times may be due to the three roads leading into and out of the windward coast, including H3, Likelike, and the Pali Highway.
Kamehameha Highway serves as the main thoroughfare through town. Kam Highway, as it is affectionately called, is home to several strip malls and restaurants. You can also find the Windward Mall along Kam, which features a Macy's, Sears and Borders Books and Music. In addition, the Windward Mall is home to the 10 screen Regal Cinema.
Kaneohe is family friendly with great schools, both public and private. It is also home to the Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Finding an affordable apartment rental in Kaneohe takes just a little patience and persistence.
The first place to start when looking for affordable apartments in Kaneohe is the local newspaper. The Honolulu Advertiser and Star Bulletin offer numerous rental options for the soon to be renter. The free Midweek is also another great resource where you can find rental listings in the classified ads.
If you are computer savvy, and like to see pictures before visiting a potential apartment, check out mynewplace.com. It is a great website that features nice high rise apartments. Listings include studios for $1050 and 1 to 2 bedrooms for $ 1600 to $2400. Ads on mynewplace.com are placed by property managers and are perfect for renters wanting to look at multiple properties.
Another great place to look for affordable apartments in Kaneohe is craigslist. Craigslist is great. They have multiple listings with great pictures, and they do not require you to sign up or enter any information to view the listings. Listings on craigslist are usually from private owners looking to rent out their attached apartment or investment condo. Recent listings included a fully furnished 1 bedroom apartment with views of Kaneohe Bay for $1600, what a great deal!
Kaneohe is a great town. Its location is ideal for commuters and young families. Affordable apartments are easy to find.
