How to Find Autocomplete History

Autocomplete history is history that is stored within an address bar or search toolbar and generates autocomplete addresses and phrases based upon your previous history. Autocomplete bars are also referred to as "smart bars" because they remember your previous inputs and generate future suggestions based upon your past inputs. This can be especially advantageous if you want to locate a website that you visited earlier but to which you do not remember the address. However, sometimes you might not want your autocomplete history to be displayed to others. If you don't want others to see your past searches, then you should delete your autocomplete history, but in order to do so, you first must know how to find it. The process to find autocomplete history is relatively simple and can be executed directly from your Internet browser.

Things You'll Need

Autocomplete bar

Step 1

Click within the autocomplete bar to position your cursor within the bar. You can also find autocomplete history by typing the beginning letters of an address or keyword phrase into the bar, at which time the autocomplete history will automatically generate responses based upon your inputs.

Step 2

Press the down arrow on your keyboard to cause a list of previously searched items to appear in a drop-down menu.

Step 3

Click on an address or keyword phrase to select it. Press "Enter" to autofill your autocomplete bar and navigate to the website. If you wish to delete an autocomplete suggestion, simply click on it to select it, and then press the delete "Del" key to delete it from the autocomplete list.

Warnings

Beware of deleting autocomplete history, for it will not regenerate until it is retyped into the autocomplete bar again.
