How to Find the Best Batting Gloves

Taking the Sting Out of the Bat Will Provide More Comfort and Better Results

We live in a generation where as young adults we want to copy and emulate the people we look up to. These people are not always the same people as past generations, where as the young adults of the 1940's and 50's looked up to pilots, in today's world we tend to look up to movie stars and singers and sports stars as our role models and who we want to grow up and be like. Today it seems that professional athletes are at the forefront of our role model world and what they do affects how we act during our games or in this case what we wear. Batting gloves have become a type of cultural phenomenon in Little League and it is important to pick out the right type of gloves in order to perform better. Here is a quick guide to picking out the best batting gloves.

In this day and age, entertainment includes endless amounts of information and streaming videos on the Internet and broadcasts of hundreds of sporting events every year. Baseball has stood the test of time and still remains one of the most watched and influential forms of entertainment around. This being said, I know I as a Little Leaguer would watch my beloved Yankees play and go out in the yard and run through their entire batting order against the hated Red Sox. I would copy their routines, their idiosyncrasies, and their batting stances. I could go through six, seven, innings in ten minutes and be up 24-0, of course plays I deemed that could go either way went in my favor.

The point being is that kids copy what they see and what they like. When I was in Little League I wanted to get all the equipment Derek Jeter was wearing so one day maybe, I could grow up and be just like him. Needless to say, the equipment I used bared no result to the effectiveness of my playing ability. However, having batting gloves in Little League made me feel like a Major Leaguer. Maybe it was because I never got to play with them just playing sandlot baseball, or maybe it was because they gave me that certain boost of confidence I needed to perform. Either way having the things that my heroes had made me more excited to come to play ball everyday.

In buying batting gloves for your young Little Leaguer or for your high school baseball team you must concede some notions of "cool" though and go more for functionality. Here is a simple guide to picking out the batting gloves that best suit you.

LOOK FOR batting gloves that are comfortable. No one wants to be up at the plate with gloves too big for them or too small, or too tight or too loose. Comfort is necessary in keeping a good hitter happy.

SHY AWAY FROM batting gloves that look cool. The chance of cool looking batting gloves working for you for one or two seasons are very slim, but they will impress the catcher and the girl in the stands, they won't however make you a better hitter or more comfortable at the plate.

LOOK FOR material that breathes. When you are playing baseball you sweat. It is often summertime when the sun is at its peak and even cold towels in the dug outs do not cut it. After a day of sweating profusely, you don't want your hands all slippery. Plus, the day after, if they are left in a cold place, like the trunk of a car, they could stiffen up.

KNOW THAT they will get dirty. Unless you are one of those base runner's who enjoy taking off your batting gloves to run the bases, the chances are the gloves will get dirty from all the grass, dirt, mud and sweat that will pour into them over the course of the season. Investing in a dark colored glove might suit you better, but just as a tip, take them off when running the bases and playing the field.
