How to Find the Car Speakers that Fit Your Needs
Tips and Ideas on Choosing the Right Speakers for Your Ride
First, consider your deck. Did you buy an after-market deck or do you still have the stock deck that came with the car? If you bought an after-market deck then consider looking at that same brand for your speakers. Companies create their decks to match up well with the same brand of speakers, which might be better than mixing and matching. If you still have the stock deck that came with the car, then just make sure whichever speakers you choose are compatible. Check the watts that your deck puts out and check with your speakers for what they can handle. If you are considering buying a deck too, look at the article "Car Sound Systems: The Deck".
Second, make a list of what you are expecting from new speakers and what you want them to be able to do. It is important to know the overall picture of what you want before you go buy speakers that are not the best for that job. Some speakers come with a tweeter, which is for the high sounds, some speakers come with all the pitches together, and some come adjusted for lower sounds. Take your list with you when you go shopping, and do not be afraid to ask a professional about which speakers would be best.
Third, know what size speaker you need. In some cases it is easy to measure, and in other cases you have to remove the door panel to measure the speaker. If you have to remove the door panel, do it carefully so that you remember how to put it back on. Sometimes if you want to change speaker sizes, it is possible but it requires a custom fit, which would either take more of your time or more money to the professional who is installing it.
Fourth, hit the stores to look at and listen to speakers. I strongly recommend that you do not buy online! Never buy speakers that you cannot hear first. Also, do not just go to one store and immediately make your purchase decision. Best Buy has a lot of options but try some local car shops and stores. There are many, many, many options for car sounds systems and speakers, so do not just settle for the first sales pitch that comes your way. Along with listening to speakers, compare prices! You might be able to get anywhere between $5 and $50 differences between stores for the same sound system.
Fifth, if you are going to have the speakers installed at a shop or by a professional, check their service prices. Sometimes it is not just the professionals time you end up paying for. Often there are hidden wire and installation fees that you do not know about until they are in the middle of the installation. Make sure to ask how much everything will cost to install before the installation begins, so that you do not end up spending more than you expected.
Sixth, have fun! Once your speakers are installed and working properly, take the car for a spin and listen to the new sound of your system. Enjoy your new purchase and enjoy your music. Good luck with your car system!
