The Cost of Career Survival
One of the harshest realities to learn after you graduate from college is that career survival and financial survival mean that you have to make sacrifices. These sacrifices can relate to what jobs you select, the hours that you work and the circumstances that you work under. Career survival may also mean making compromises to your work ethic and to your professional opinions. These compromises and sacrifices relate primarily to the fact that most people have to work for someone else. This means that they have to play by a set of professional rules that they have no input on.
Being Happy at Work
Finding happiness at work is critical to your long-term personal and professional success. Those people that do not like their jobs often resent having to work or even dread having to go to work. These negative emotions produce stress that can impact the person's health and their longevity. It can also impact their productivity and their emotional stability. All of these things are bad for business and bad for personal relationships.
Those people that enjoy their jobs tend to be more productive, they tend to experience fewer illnesses and they tend to have stronger and healthier personal relationships. All of these positive things clearly show that it is import to love what you do for a living.
Finding the Right Career Path
Finding the right career path is a challenge. It is not something that most people can do with one try and it often requires trying out several different fields before finding the right fit. When trying to find the right career path for you it is important to remember that you are not locked into any one choice. You always have the option of trying something new, whether that is a new industry, a new employer or an independent business venture.
To be happy at work the person needs to find a profession that allows them to explore topics that they are interested in and to exercise their natural skill proficiencies and gifts. People also need to find a job that will allow them to work when they are the most comfortable working, for some people this is nights and for others it is days. Finally, people need a profession that allows them to create a balanced life. A balanced life will satisfy both their professional needs and their personal needs. The balancing point between work and personal life is going to be different for everyone.
