Trusted Local Agent
First, contact your local insurance agent with whom you already have insurance on your home, car or other items. Your agent will be able to let you know what types of policies they offer for motorcycles that will give you great coverage in the event of an accident and fit your budget as well. If you don't have a trusted local agent, or your current insurance company does not insure motorcycles, you can still obtain a fair and reasonable insurance quote in other ways.
Other Agent or Bank/Credit Union
If you don't already have an insurance agent, or your current insurer does not handle motorcycle insurance, call an insurance agent in your local area to request a quote. You may also be able to do this by visiting their website, if you know whom you would like to work with. You can also try your bank or credit union, as these institutions sometimes offer insurance policies of all types, including motorcycle insurance. You may also be eligible for discounts on your motorcycle insurance policy just by having an established business relationship and accounts in good standing with the institution. In addition, if you have your motorcycle financed through a manufacturer's finance company, they may also offer motorcycle insurance policies, so don't forget to research that avenue.
Online
If none of the above options work for you, use an internet search engine to locate the websites for several major motorcycle insurers and request quotes from them. There are also services that allow you to input your information, and the site will generate quotes from several insurers at one time. This task can be done at any time of the day from the comfort of your own home, and it takes very little effort. In addition, some insurers will let you purchase your policy and print the relevant documents on your home computer. This eliminates the need to visit an agent or insurance company in person and disrupt your schedule.
If you have a motorcycle, one of the most important things you can do for your vehicle and yourself and any passengers you might transport, is to provide proper insurance coverage. You can do this without busting your budget, if you take your time, do the proper research, and comparison shop.
