Underwear is the foundation of every outfit women wear. Taking pride in it is taking pride in ourselves. You want to know the best way to give yourself a boost when you are feeling down? Buy yourself some new underwear and see how you feel the first time you put them on. If your bra and panty matches, even better! There are sales everywhere we go, yet we only tend to purchase our "unmentionables" out of necessity. How many bras do we need? How should I care for my bra? What fabrics should I look for when choosing a bra? Is my bra fitting me properly? These are questions we ask ourselves, and not others.
I have always been a lingerie kinda gal. I love the feel of soft and silky fabrics on my skin. I am the designated shopping partner in my circle of friends when it's time for someone to purchase their undergarments. Some ladies don't have a confidant to assist them with selecting the right bra size. Many department stores and some specialty boutiques like iCandy offer free bra fittings for customers. Take advantage of them, or you can do it yourself at home.
Let's get started...
Your bra size is broken down into 3 parts, your bust size, band size and your cup size.
36C = 36 band size, C cup size
Bust size is used to determine your cup size
The first step is to find your band size. Take a measuring tape (like the ones used for sewing) and measure just under your breasts after you exhale. If the measurement reads an even number, add 4 to it and that is the size of the band that you need. If the measurement reads an odd number, add 5 to it to determine your size. Now you have your correct bra band size.
Next, you want to measure for your bust size. For this, you want to measure the largest part of your breast. Find where your breast are the most full, and wrap the measuring tape under your arms and across your bust. Round that number to the nearest whole number for your bust size and you are halfway there!
Now armed with your bust size, you need to convert that number into your cup size. Here is an easy way to do it:
Find out the difference in inches between your band size & your bust size. If your band size is 36 and your bust size is 40, the difference is 4 inches.
Bust Size - Band Size = Cup Size
40 inches - 36 inches = 4 inches
If the difference is less than 1 inch, then your cup size would be AA.
1 inch - A
2 inches - B
3 inches - C
4 inches - D
5 inches - DD
6 inches - DDD
7 inches - F
8 inches - G
9 inches - GG
10 inches - H
11 inches - HH
12 inches - J
13 inches -JJ
Now that you have found the correct bra size, you are ready to take on the world! Remember, your bra size is not set in stone. Your size can vary depending on the bra manufacturer, so it is best to purchase a bra that you are able to try on before you buy it. Also, gaining or losing weight can affect your size. I recommend getting refitted every year as a safeguard.
