Have you ever wondered how professional dancers find work? More specifically, how they find auditions to get work? If you don't know where to look, finding the opportunities can turn into a job itself! Thankfully, the internet makes it a little easier to sift through information and find dance jobs. Here are some internet resources to help you find more information about dance auditions across the United States.

If you are most interested in working in a specific area one of the best ways to find work is to directly contact dance companies, theaters and venues in that area. Some may have websites, and an internet search will quickly connect you to their contact and audition info. But they may not always post auditions online, so feel free to politely call and ask about any openings and/or upcoming auditions.

While you are looking in one geographic area, you can always give Craigslist.org a quick browse. Especially in the larger cities you can sometimes find audition info listed under the "gigs" section.

Playbill.com posts jobs in the theater industry including dance jobs. Basic info is free, for detailed info you are usually given emails to contact. If theater and broadway musical auditions interest you, they are a helpful resource.

Getgigs.com lists about thirty dance auditions, but many were out of date. The info is free so it can't hurt to check in with the website every now and then and see if they update or grow with more postings.

Professionaldancer.net lists approximately one or two dance auditions each week. They provide very detailed descriptions and contact info. The jobs seem to come from different locations across the US.

Auditions.com is becoming known for good listings. They post approximately five auditions per day, though they do not post any contact info, you have to submit your email for the casting director to contact you.

If you are looking for work in the New York City area you can check DanceNYC.org. They have free audition information that is very detailed. On a lot of the postings however they don't list dates so some of the info may be out of date. Call first!

Three of the best-known dance websites on the internet have message boards that will occasionally include audition info. DanceMagazine.com, Pointemagazine.com and Dance.net all cater to aspiring dancers. You can find information about auditions by browsing the forums or searching for keywords. Their audition postings are mostly peer to peer, with other dancers spreading the information, so if you find something that interests you, make sure to check with the company or director to confirm the details.

Two of the larger audition info sites are Backstage and Answers4dancers. Both are pay sites that require you to subscribe and maintain membership in order to view audition info. They do boast the most listings of dance auditions on the internet however, and if you are serious about making this your living the $10-$25 per month is not that much of an expense. Answers4Dancers additionally has exclusive behind-the-scenes videos and informative articles for dancers that members can access. They are really helping to promote the industry. Also, they post a lot of hip hop, cutting edge and music video jobs, as opposed to ballet or technique-based companies.

So now that you know where to go to find work, you just have to practice and prepare! Attend as many as you to improve your odds and you will find you end up gaining valuable experience as well.
