How to Find Discounts and Save Money when Shopping Online for Christmas Gifts

Lauren Romano
Shopping online for Christmas gifts is amazingly convenient. For many people, it beats having limited choices in the stores and having to fight crowds. Another advantage is that you can find incredible deals if you know where to look. There are easy ways to buy your Christmas gifts all from the comfort of your chair and save yourself quite a bit of money in the process.

Sign up for e-mails on the store's website in order to get discounts and save some money

You may get notifications of sales and small discounts occasionally throughout the year, but around Christmas you can get emails about huge special discounts, some of which aren't available unless you go through the link on the email. I recently received an email about a sale and paid $70 less for a Christmas gift than if I had purchased it at regular price.

Before buying Christmas gifts online, visit retailmenot.com

I don't buy from any website without checking this one first. There are coupon codes to thousands of stores that can lead to some good discounts. On some websites, two codes can be used so the savings are even bigger. I discovered two codes on retailmenot.com and ended up getting free shipping and 15% off the price of a Christmas gift I wanted to purchase.

Visit pricegrabber.com to get various prices from different sellers

Type in whatever item you're looking to purchase and you will get a list of sellers, the price, tax, shipping, total price, availability and rating of the item. I saved as much as $50 on a Christmas gift I purchased for myself this year by doing a search on pricegrabber.com first.

Buy children's clothes on eBay

I decided instead of buying clothes for kids this year in stores, I would try eBay first. Children's clothes can be expensive and at the rate kids grow there's no point in spending a lot of money. I typed in the item I wanted to buy, narrowed down the results then clicked on "sort by lowest price". I purchased all brand new clothes with tags at about a dollar a piece plus a few dollars for shipping. When searching for your items, type in "nwt" afterward. It stands for "new with tags" and means that it shouldn't have ever been worn and still has the tags attached. Make sure to check their payment options and feedback rating before purchasing from any seller.

Prices can be expensive enough; you shouldn't have to settle for paying full price for anything. You should be able to spend more time enjoying Christmas then worrying about spending a large amount of money on presents and having an empty wallet.
