How to Use and Find Dry Shampoo

The Quick, Simple Solution to Waterless Shampooing

Years ago, when I was in college I sat next to a young woman named Stephanie in my Biology class. She came in one day with a bit of white powder on her hair line and when I asked her what it was she said baby powder with cornstarch. It was a trick her mother had taught her if she didn't have time to wash her hair. Stephanie explained it was a great way to soak up excess oil and since her hair was blonde it was nearly an invisible solution. Looking back on that moment 15 years ago I had no idea how far ahead of the game she happened to be. Her solution is now a household name called "dry shampoo" and can be found on the runways of some of the most well known fashion shows. At the Rag and Bone show the look of the models included two day old hair, bed head and dry shampoo.

Although it's becoming popular because it is used on the runways; it's been available in a multitude of stores, salons/spas and on the net for quite a while. Not only are dry shampoo's sold in simple powder forms but can be purchased in a spray powder, similar to hairspray. Certain sprays are also available in different hair shades. Here are five dry shampoo sprays and where you can get them.

Salon Grafix Spray Powder Shampoo is available at the drugstore.com in blond and brunette shades and comes in a 4oz size. The price is $7.99.

Bumble and Bumble makes an array of Hair Powder that have a combination of tinting agent to them. The color selections range from ash blonde, platinum, all shades of red, brunette and black. The price is $35 for a 4oz spray can.

Sephora carries the Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Spray in a 1.4oz spray bottle for $11. Sephora also carries this product in the 3.2oz spray for $21.

Klorane has a version of Extra Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk and can be found at drugstore.com The size is a 1.06oz spray can for $7.50.

Naturia Dry Shampoo is a product in the Rene Furterer line which is also carried at Sephora. The size of this can is comparable to the other sprays coming in a 1.06oz spray can for $12 or a 3.2oz can for $24.

The directions for all of these are straight forward and simple. Since it's dry shampoo water is not necessary for it's use. Shake the canister well before applying a coat to your hair. For an overall effect spray hair from 10" to 12" and in sections if need be then let it sit for one or two minutes. This powder will soak up any excess oil that's on the hair. If your hair is not oily then the product will not work because it needs oil to adhere to. After you have given your hair a few minutes to soak in the powder and dry; run a brush through it to get rid of the excess spray to revive limp hair.

Interesting- what's old is new again. And way more expensive!
