How to Find Extra Storage Space in Your Small Bathroom

Timothy Sexton
Locating extra space inside a small bathroom can be a task equal to those given to Hercules. Of course, Hercules himself would be too large to fit inside a small bathroom so the comparison is less than apt. If you live in an apartment or condo or a small house you probably have to deal with less space inside your bathroom than is ideal. Do not fear; ways do exist to take full advantage of the space you possess to provide yourself with more utilization of that space than you are currently using.

Bathroom Door
Most bathroom doors are not sturdy enough to handle anything heavy hanging from it, but they are sturdy enough to drafted into action. A lightweight holder made of plastic or fabric can fit comfortably on most bathroom doors and serve as storage space for smaller elements used in the bathroom. Get a holder that has plenty of pockets and you can even use it for storing washrags and small towels and that will free up some of the space that is already being used.

Above the Sink
You can utilize the space above the sink to a much greater advantage than is already there. The space above most sinks is occupied by a medicine cabinet or a mirror. If you only have a mirror, take it down and install a medicine cabinet. If you already have a medicine cabinet, invest in a larger version. Give yourself some extra space by cutting a hole in the drywall and sinking the medicine cabinet in so that it is flush with the wall.

Beneath the Sink
You probably already have cabinet space beneath your sink unless you've got a pedestal sink. If you do own a sink without cabinet space, force that space into action by locating items beneath it. The stuff that can fit beneath a sink include your bathroom cleaning supplies. If you've got cabinets beneath the sink, utilize it to greater advantage. Most cabinets beneath the bathroom sink are repositories of toilet paper, scrubbing brushes and bathroom fixture cleansers. Consider what else you could store beneath there and organize it so that you take full advantage of every inch of space.

Over the Bath
Great expanses of wasted space exist over your tub. Installing some shelving or cupboard units in that space gives you plenty of storage area. If your bottles of shampoo and conditioner are constantly falling from the edges of the bathtub, this kind of shelving will come in very handy.

Both of our bathrooms are way too small. Good suggestions.
