The first thing you need to know to understand how to find fashion trends on Twitter is that merely searching "Fashion Trends" is a start but it may not get you the meatiest information. Search "fashion trends" on Twitter and you will get a lot of promotion of blog posts and many tweets with comments such as "I'm watching the fashion trends at the Oscars and hating them." The former may be actually useful for trying to find fashion trends on Twitter but the latter are usually a waste of time.
A better strategy is to type the phrase "fashion trends" in the Twitter search engine with a hash tag. In other words, search for "#fashion trends" rather than "fashion trends." This brings up only posts that have been meta-tagged in the category of fashion trends. Users that know how to meta tag are more likely to be professionals and industry experts so the information they present is likely to be more usable.
Another method for how to find fashion trends on Twitter is to check follower directories such as We Follow. Search for Twitter fashion experts on We Follow or similar sites such as GeoFollow and Twitterholic and the top names in the category are going to be commercial Twitter accounts such as fashion magazines and celebrity PR accounts. However, by going down the list a little bit you can find individuals and online publications that will give you more unique viewpoints. For example, one of the ranked Twitter users in the top fifty in the fashion category on We Follow is a web publication called HighSnobiety. A HighSnobiety post from a few minutes ago at the time this article was written indicates that iPad cases from designers such as Gucci are an upcoming trend.
Finally, a good way to find sources for real fashion tips on Twitter is to keep an open profile and post questions directly in your own tweets. For example, if you want to know what the newest style of shoe is for summer 2010, post it as a question and if your profile is open the question will be visible to all users. Useful responses will indicate Twitter users who are worth following for fashion trends on Twitter.
