How to Find a Ferret that is Lost in Your Home

Ferrets can make great pets and if you already have one you know how mischievous and curious they can be. Ferrets have amazing flexibility. The ferret's anatomy makes it possible for it to fit in the most cramped of spaces. In addition to their flexibility, ferrets have a curious nature and they enjoy roaming their environment. This can be unfortunate for the owner because the ferret gets lost inside of the home and the larger the home the more difficult the find. It can be quite scary and frustrating to lose a ferret so that is why I have included some common ferret snooping places for you to look so that you can find your lost ferret.

Check in cabinets and drawers. Ferrets will jump into drawers and sniff around. Although your cabinets may be closed ferrets can still get in. So make sure that you diligently check inside all of the cabinets and drawers in your home.

Check inside of your stove. Make sure to look inside of your oven before turning it on. You should avoid turning your oven on until you have found the ferret. I once had a ferret that almost became a baked ferret! It is important to check the top and bottom portions of your stove to make sure that your ferret is not in there. Ferrets are very curious and what looks dangerous to us will appear intriguing to them. They do not know that the stove will harm them.

Check inside walls. Turn off all the sounds in your home and listen intently for odd sounds coming out of your wall. You may think that it impossible for a ferret to get inside of the wall but it is not. Ferrets are very flexible and intelligent if there is an opening in the wall they will squeeze through.

Check under and inside chairs. If you have recliners in your home, check beneath them to make sure your ferret is not under there. If the ferret is under the recliner and you sit down in the recliner you can easily injure your ferret. Ferrets will make a high pitched chuckle sound when they are hurt or being hurt so you should be able to hear your ferret if he is wedged between the chair.

Look inside your mattress. Ferrets like to burrow. Look inside your mattress (top and bottom) to make sure that your ferret is not caught inside. If he is inside of the mattress he may need help getting out.

Look under your bed, book shelves, or entertainment center. Look underneath any item of furniture that raises a few feet above the ground. Sometimes ferrets will find solace in dark, cramped places.

Lure the ferret out with his favorite treats. Lay a few pieces of your ferret's favorite treat out in an area near the side of the wall and sit a few feet away and watch to see if the ferret comes out.
