How to Find Free Bible Audio for Christmas Gifts
Give Yourself and Your Friends the Free Gift of an Audio Bible
Recently, many people have discovered listening to audiobooks while driving or traveling in other ways. The Bible was one of the earliest audiobooks to be enjoyed with twentieth-century technology when actor Alexander Scourby (more) recorded the complete King James Version of the Bible in the 1940s.
Today, drawing on the technology of the twenty-first century, there are many sites devoted to free audio Bibles online. One of the best sites for finding free audio Bibles is AudioTreasure.com, a site that has a special treasure of its own, a complete recording of the Bible, which you can download for free.
By the way, you don't have to download the whole audio Bible at once; it is broken down into more manageable smaller files. From the download page (here), you can download or listen to the King James Version of the Bible, as well as the World English Bible and translations of the Bible in to several languages. Check for specifics, but many of these audio Bibles can be legally copied and shared for free.
From the links page (here), you can access free audio Bibles in even more languages and formats.
Another source for audio Bibles and audiobooks of Christian writings is the Christian Classics Ethereal Library (here). The audio includes some rather unlikely selections, such as Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground and Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, as well as The Practice of the Presence of God, The Imitation of Christ, and John Wesley's Journals.
These audio Bibles and other audiobooks are in MP3 format. You can burn them to CD and play them on MP3 compatible CD players. You can also play these on MP3 players, or you can convert them to play on standard CD players.
I imagine a Sunday school class of tech-savvy teenagers converting the files to play as audio CDs and then distributing these audio Bibles to blind or elderly people, or, for that matter, to anyone who would enjoy having an audio Bible.
If you are studying another language, having an audio Bible in that language could be a great learning tool.
Use your imagination and creativity (perhaps to design a special label), and you can find a variety of uses for your free audio Bible. If you have some problems recording CDs, Linda Louise Johnson (source page here) has some great ideas (here) on how to turn the CDs into Christmas decorations.
You can find an earlier version of this article (here) and an index page of my articles on Christianity (here).

Post a CommentI like also eSword for written translations. I give talks and it is good to use (appropriately) different translations. Sometimes it helps to clarify a point.
Very nice! Merry Christmas to you, Michael. :)
Sadly, no one I know would appreciate this, but great resources here.
Good resource. My brother in law likes to read the Christmas story from the bible aloud every year.
