How to Make a Find It Game

Instructions for Homemade Hidden Pieces Games

Find It games are very fun but can be expensive if you want more than one style. Making your own hidden pieces game can help to save money on toys. It also turns into a fun activity that can be shared with the entire family. Here are instructions on how to make a find it game at home.

Materials to make a find it game:
Gather an empty plastic bottle, a large bag of raw beans and a three or four dozen miniature pieces to hide in your homemade Find It game. Use lentils, coffee beans, peas and other small options instead of lima beans or red beans. Used plastics like water containers and baby bottles can be recycled and reused to make this hidden pieces game. Uncooked rice can also be used as a substitute for beans. You can choose a main theme when planning to make a find it game or add random hidden pieces.

The collection of random pieces can be any small household items or tiny miniatures found at craft stores and party shops. Popular hidden pieces in a basic Find It game include one penny, button, eraser, marble, dice and even widely used office supplies. Specialty hidden pieces should match your main idea such as adding doll accessories for a Barbie themed Find It game. Select materials based on who will be playing with the game. Add larger items if you are making a homemade find it game for children.

Instructions on how to make a find it game:
Pour a small portion of beans into your bottle and then add one miniature piece from your collection. Add more beans and then place one more miniature item into your plastic bottle. Repeat this process using the beans and miniature items until your plastic container is almost full with these hidden pieces. Write each hidden piece on a piece of paper as it gets added to the bottle. Leave one inch of space between the contents of this Find It game and your bottle cap. This will provide enough room to move the beans around, trying to find all hidden pieces.

Shake up the filled plastic bottle to mix all of your hidden pieces up more. Print out an organized list of all your hidden pieces with a blank line or box next to them. Make multiple copies of this list and keep one saved in a computer file or printed sheet for later use if you need more copies. Each player of this homemade Find It game must check the hidden pieces as they are found. You can make one large Find It game or multiple small ones to entertain children in your household.
