There is a way that some people can find their old Geocities pages though. Several groups decided to archive these pages so that they wouldn't be lost to the world forever when Geocities did their purge and got rid of them. Some of those groups even banded together once they found each other in an effort to get as much information downloaded from the site as possible before the site completely shut down. They have begun to post it on the internet so that you have a possibility of finding those long lost pages.
Where you might find old Geocities pages archived:
Reocities- Reocities has a huge collection of information from the Geocities pages that once graced the web. If you visit this site, you can find the city that you were in and if you know the number that your webpage was, you can see right away if they have it there or not. There are literally thousands upon thousands of websites that were saved for future generations to look back on to see what we were like in the 1990's and what the internet was like at the time. We are already long past those early days of the internet and before we know it, those pages will be like a gold mine of information for future generations. It's even good for people who are looking for information on their family tree. Ancestry is a huge business as more and more people want to know about their family history. This is a great place to start. Looking through some of the old pages, it is a reminder of a much simpler time in social networking where you could be who you wanted to be.
Geociti.es- This site is much like the Reocities page. You can look up the pages by the city that your page was in and the number. You can, if want and/or need is there for you to find the page, go through each archived site to see if your page was one of the lucky survivors. Not all pages were saved, but a huge portion were. Some of them have come to a demise because they just may not have been found before Yahoo closed the site down for good. Those that are left have a lot of great information along with a very nice look back at what the web was once all about.
Torrent Files- There is a torrent file that you can download with all the information on it that you need to work from your own computer. It is not something that everyone should download because it is a very extensive load of files. It should only be downloaded if you have a specific purpose in mind for it once you have it. (I have been attempting to download it but have not been able to as of yet. It may be because the files are so large. In any case, it will take up vast amounts of space on your computer and I can't be sure exactly what is on it. I believe it to be the actual websites that were on Geocities that were able to be saved.
Geocities.ws-This isn't a way to find your old Geocities page, this is just a way to store the page once you do find it. It allows you to upload the files and begin to edit them again. It is a great way for you to revive what you lost. If you still used your Geocities page when it got shut down, this is the perfect way to breathe new life into it. (Unfortunately, I have not been able to find my Geo page, I would definitely use this site if I had found it though) It is free to use and you get the same benefits as you once had with Geocities.
WayBackMachine- If you happen to remember your old URL from your Geocities page, you may just be able to find it on the Way Back Machine. You have to have the full address though. There isn't a promise that it will be there, but you will be surprised how much you can find on this website. It archives old pages from all over the internet.
These are just a few ideas for finding your old Geocities web pages. It has become a project that a lot of people have decided to take on because they think back about all the information that was on the internet in those days and what a waste it is to have it all disappear. There are so many possible uses for it, even though these pages were made a very long time ago. It is literally a huge part of internet history that is now gone forever, in some cases. At least some of the pages have been saved and it would be one of the smartest moves on the earth for someone to take advantage of the misguided effort to obliterate a major part of social networking history from the face of the internet.
