How to Find a Good Book

Tyler S.
Looking for a book that will interest, entertain, and amuse you? Don't know where to start? Here are some tips on how to find a good book that is right for you.

1. Go to your local library.

Your local library is filled with books for all types of readers. Unsure of what style you're interested in? Ask your local librarian. They normally have read a variety of interesting books and can point you to a few good choices.

Your local library also is broken into sections, making finding the right book much easier. If you're not sure what to look for, popular books often have a display of their own. Reading what interests others can be a great way to find what type of reading you will enjoy.

2. Research online.

There are some great websites created specifically for spreading the word about interesting and commonly enjoyed books. These sites are perfect if you're not sure what you are looking for and are interested in others opinions.

Some great sites include: www.Amazon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com, www.abebooks.com, www.alibris.com, www.randomhouse.com/modernlibrary/100bestnovels.html, and www.nytimes.com/pages/books/.

There are also many great "top 100" book lists to be found. These are great sources for finding a variety of very popular and well received books.

3. Visit your local bookstore.

The staffs at your local bookstore often have a very good knowledge of books. A good bookstore makes it easy for you to find what interests you. Most bookstores categorize their books by genre, making it simple to find just what you're looking for.

I personally find this option the most useful. My local bookstore helps me find exactly what will hold my interest, and has a friendly atmosphere. A trip to my local bookstore never fails.

4. Find a book by author.

Read a book that you have really enjoyed? Find what other books are available from the same author. If the book was part of a series, why not read the next book in the series? Find others who also enjoy the same author, and find out which other authors they enjoy.

5. Read book reviews.

Many newspapers have a review section. This is a great resource if, like most in this day in age, you don't have much time on your hands.

6. Join a book club.

Book clubs are great ways to connect with others interested in reading and to discover new authors and writing styles. Not only will you be sure to find an exciting book, but you will be able hear others opinions and reviews.
