How to Find a Good Summer Hobby

Sitting in a Chair Watching the World Go by is Not a Good Hobby

Sitting in a chair, watching the world go by, is not a good summer time hobby. First of all, it gets boring after a while and secondly it is not productive for body or spirit.

Do something that you might have never done before. Here is a list of some worthwhile hobbies that will fill your summer with fun and excitement.

If you never find time to read, make it a goal to read while you sit outdoors. You can purchase books at flea markets, yard sales, and even the local discount store. If you don't want to clutter your home with books, try the local library. They have wonderful selections that can be returned without piling them up at your home. You can read self-help books, fiction, or even books that relate the history of your town.

If you are not a reader, try getting a crossword puzzle book. There are many different types available, such as fill ins, find a word, and even a new craze, filling in the correct numbers. You can purchase these cheaply at the local dollar store.

If you are not a continuous reader, try reading a magazine or two. As you sit lounging, you can look at the magazine and learn things, also.

All of these activities can be done while sitting in a chair outdoors.

If you have not picked up needle work for a long time, now is the time to do that. There are many books and kits that can be purchased. While sitting in that chair, you can knit baby things, crochet an item or two, or even make a sampler. All of this can be done from the confines of a chair outdoors.

With the battery operational on the computer, you can sit outdoors and play your favorite game. You can play solitaire while enjoying the sounds of the birds and other animals.

If you want a little more activity outdoors, start a small garden. If this is your first attempt and you don't want to spend hours on end planting, start out small. If it is just a small mound of dirt, where you planted some seeds, you can learn to water, weed, and care for it on the times you spend outdoors. As you get more interested in the planting aspect, you can expand your gardening to a bigger area. Once again, this is a good place to get a book and read.

If you live in an apartment, you can start container gardens. These require minimal space, attention, but offer great rewards.

If you are not a reader, gardener, or needlework person, try being a friendly person. Take your phone outdoors and call some of the shut ins that you know. You can visit with them on the phone, while you bask in the outdoors atmosphere. This requires very little effort on your part, and is appreciated by the shut ins, who do not have the opportunity to get outdoors.

If you are an adventurous person, try going to yard sales this summer. The bargains there are outstanding, and the thrill of finding them is great. If you want, take along a few friends, and trade days to drive. It is a great summer time hobby, that costs next to nothing. It is a good way to meet some nice people, also.

Enjoy summer but make it a summer to remember.
