How to Find Great Hippie Music

Whether it's a cold, cloudy day or a sunny day in spring, hippie music always brings a little something extra to the mood. Hippie music can relax you or bring a smile across your face; this is why I have devoted an article on how to find this amazing music. Now, hippie music is pretty vague, I mean, it can be any genre (except for heavy metal and a few others), but for the sake of definition, I'm going to refer to it as "happy music". In my opinion, hippie music sends out positive vibes and makes everyday a good day.

Favorite Hippie Stores
Have you ever noticed that certain stores, like Earthbound and World Market, always seem to have great music playing? Why not ask them where they got it, chances are, they have multiple cds and they're on sale somewhere in the store. I recently went to Earthbound, asked about their music, and was directed to an entire section of cds that were produced by a company called, Putumayo. Putumayo has tons of world music and all of the cds are listed on the site. And in the nature of being a poor hippie myself, I looked up some of the songs and downloaded them for free off of Limewire. So now I have my own Putumayo World Music mix.

I'm sure everyone already knows about this, but for those that don't, iTunes is a great place to find music that is similar to what you already like. All you have to do is type the name of a hippie artist you love and iTunes will bring up a list of similar artists and playlists. However, you don't have to stop there. Download a few songs from an artist that you don't know and then find some artists similar to that one. You can continue this chain until you have tons of hippie music that you didn't even know of before.

Visit a Real Hippie Stores
This may sound similar to the suggestion that you should ask stores like Earthbound and World Market where they get their music, but this is totally different. I'm suggesting that you find one of those real, and usually pretty elusive, hippie stores. While they are hard to find, they usually have an amazing music section. I went into one when I was passing through San Marcos, Texas and it was awesome. I've seen many of these types of hippie stores, but I don't usually have time to stop as I'm passing through, but if you find one and haven't yet checked one out- do it! You'll be glad you took the time to slow down and find some great hippie tunes.
