Garage sales are renowned for being eBay gold mines. People having garage sales do not have the time to sell all of the items individually on eBay, so they sell them for cheap in their front yard. However the majority of people, who scrounge garage sales, looking for great products to sell on eBay, do not have the right strategy. You need to treat it as a job. When you hear that there will be a big garage sale in your town, go early so you can pick the best items with the highest resale value. Then go late to pick up the rest of the items at bottom basement prices.
Craigslist is also a virtual treasure trove for inexpensive, possibly valuable, items that people are trying hard to get 4rid of. This means that they will be going for low prices. In fact, there is even a free section on craigslist where people literally give away unwanted goods. It is true that most of these items will be of little value, however there are enough people trying to offload their old designer hand bags to make checking craigslist a worthwhile exercise. You need to check craigslist often because there is a lot of competition for these items, and they will go fast. As with any time of value hunting, the early bird gets the worm.
Drop shippers are for the serious eBay business person. Drop shippers will store the product for you and ship the product for you once you have an order. You can have a ridiculous amount of stock without filling your house with the product you are trying to sell. This isn't for everybody though because it requires a pretty big investment in order to get the initial shipment. The key to making money with drop shipping is by doing a lot of niche research. Try to stay away from the big name brands because it will be next to impossible to compete with them unless you have the type of resources that they do. You have to look for smaller more profitable niches that maybe feature products that are difficult to find in real life. For instance, dehumidifiers are a specialty item with very little supply in some geographical areas.
