There is nothing quite like volunteering in a way that helps the environment. Getting your hands dirty, enjoying the outdoors, and meeting new people are just a few of the benefits from such volunteering. Better yet, you would be helping preserve the planet and making it a better and cleaner place for future generations. Fortunately, there are several volunteer opportunities across the country that will allow you to help protect the earth.

Green Volunteer Opportunity #1: Check out local organizations and offices of political candidates.

Regional or local environmental groups, local chapters of national groups, and the environmental office in your local government department are great places to start. After all, there is no easier way to help protect the earth than in your own backyard. Also consider the offices of local or national political candidates whose environmental views match yours.

Green Volunteer Opportunity #2: Find some opportunities in a green listing.

Several green living websites have periodic postings on volunteer opportunities through different organizations. For instance GreenYour.com has several different green opportunities listed on their websites. These opportunities include the Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, and the National Park service.

Other listings that may help you find green volunteer opportunities include VolunteerMatch, EnviroLink, Freedom Corps, and Idealist

Green Volunteer Opportunity #3: Join TogetherGreen.

TogetherGreen is an organization that helps people get involved in creating a healthier and brighter future. Each year, TogetherGreen organizes hundreds of projects at Audubon sites across the country. To find a TogetherGreen volunteer opportunity near you visit their website.

Green Volunteer Opportunity #4: Partake in a Beach Clean Ups

Since the catastrophic Gulf Oil Spill, many environmentalists have focused their attention on the wellbeing of our oceans. For this reason, there are several beach clean ups taking place all along the U.S. Coastlines. For example, if you live in South Florida there will be a beach clean up in Miami Beach on Saturday, September 25. This is a great opportunity to raise awareness while meeting new people and helping the local community.

For more information visit the Miami Dade Coastal Clean Up website.

However you choose to help the environment, always try and get as many of your friends involved as possible. The more people volunteer the cleaner and brighter the future will be.
