How To Find Happiness From Within

On Your Way to Happiness

Kevin Nurmi
Life does not always deal you the best hand. Things sometimes become very difficult and it can often be discouraging to see other people living the life of your dreams. You want to know what the secret to a happy life might be. You also wonder how people maintain their level of happiness in such a dark and dismal world.

The key to true happiness is within you. One of the first things you need to do is truly love and accept yourself. You have to accept that you are not, and will never be, perfect. By being able to realize that, and accept yourself anyway, you are improving the way you feel about yourself, and how happy you are with yourself. Once you realize that you are often making mistakes, you can begin to learn from your mistakes and better yourself as a person. You cannot expect anyone else to love you if you do not love yourself.

Genuine happiness stems also from being content. When you finally accept the way things are, and are content with things such as your appearance, career, family and friends, your house and car, along with everything else you have, you will realize that you have a lot of good things going for you. When you reach that point, you can stop striving for other things, and begin enjoying the things you have, making you a happier person.

You must also realize that you will not always succeed at everything you attempt. If you never lost anything, what would be the point of life? Failure is necessary to life, almost as necessary as the air we breathe. Just because you do not always get what you want, does not mean that you can not be happy though.

You may wonder how people really are happy when all this failure and short comings surround them. Well, I will let you know, that if you really put effort into trying to improve yourself, life will give you points so to speak. Look at life as if it is one large score board. Every time you take a good step forward in life, you will be earning yourself points. Even if at the end of the day, you only earned one or two points, you would feel better then if you lost a point or two. By realizing that even the slightest amount of good is better then bad, you will come to know that life always has it's little upsides.

Happiness cannot be based purely on material positions. Having the best car, greatest award, nicest house, or most money will not truly make you happy. It may seem that those people are happy on the outside, but material possessions can only make you so happy. They are a quick fix to fill an empty part of their life, and eventually they will need another quick fix, and another, until they run out of things to patch up with. Eventually they will become the worst type of unhappy: The people with everything, and nothing. If you dedicate yourself to looking at everything in a positive light, you are more likely to be a happy person. Usually, if you strive for happiness, you can find it. You may think that it only lasts for a short while, but if every time you see it slipping away, you need to run after it, and you will catch it.

I am sure you have noticed by now that a lot of thought and dedication goes into being a truly happy person. Looking at life as a game, waiting for you to win can help you put things into perspective. Keep your thoughts positive, and love yourself for who you really are. The more you put out, the better the outcome will be. Therefore, put your best foot forward, and you will be a much happier person.
