How to Find Your Ideal Internship

Jack Rella
When you hear internship what are your first thoughts? Many students associate internships as unpaid work and though this may be the case for some, we all have to start somewhere so let's look at it another way, the way in which an internship will be the success of your future.

Internships are an invaluable learning experience for any college students and could determine your future career, that career that you have dreamed of that includes wealth, happiness and success with an internship you are one step closer to your dream. Employers are always looking for college graduates that have some kind of 'hands on and real world' experience and so an internship will put you one step ahead of the others.

I know you are thinking how do I find my ideal internship that will enable my successful career. You need to think about where you would like to do your internship and though a wonderful Caribbean Island sounds fantastic you have to be realistic and consider when your internship can take place if it needs to be within spring or autumn then try and look for an internship close to your school, however if you are able to do your internship in the summer then you can open your boundaries and may be able to find an internship in a place you have always wanted to experience.

Consideration is needed for the type of organization you are looking for, remember there are millions of companies out there that could be needing you but also you need to find the one that will benefit your career in the long run, take into consideration the size of the company and if there are positions available for you in the future because naturally you are going to shine in your internship and they will be demanding you after graduation.

Internships are also a good way for you to establish in which way you want your career goals to go and so use internships to your advantage, if you're unsure whether a career in Family Law or Criminal Law is destined for you then consider getting internships in both areas to really get an idea of your goals.

Once you have tackled these areas, start creating a list of companies you are interested in, and try to network with people from your industry of study, remember also that in some cases 'it's not what you know but who you know' talk to as many friends and family members who may be able to get in contact with people from your chosen companies and also provide open doors for your future.

Now with the above areas clearly thought through you can start to prepare your resume and cover letter to send to your chosen companies and before long you will be swamped with acceptance letters and the internship that will bring you that future wealth, happiness and success.
