You have managed to find a perfect pumpkin, the perfect size and shape, with no defects! Tired of three triangles and a curved mouth, with more triangles, you need something special in the way of a pattern to carve. Jack-o-lantern patterns are no longer difficult to come by. The first suggestion would be getting a special carving kit which should be available at almost any general merchandise or grocery store. Most carving kits will come with a set of patterns included and additional pattern books are usually available in the same store section. A basic carving kit is recommended as it supplies the proper size and shape cutting tools and makes intricate detailing easier. Fancy cutting designs will turn out much better with the proper tools as compared to stabbing away with a steak knife. Using the proper tools may also help to prevent bodily injury. If you wish to add blood to your carved pumpkin make sure it is the store bought fake kind.

There are also plenty of jack-o-lantern carving ideas and patterns available on line for free. Better Homes and Gardens has an extensive selection of patterns, carving ideas and even a stencil maker that allows you to design and then print your own pattern. The link to the main page for ideas is: http://www.bhg.com/holidays/gallery/halloween-pumpkin-carving-ideas You do not need to be a subscriber to enjoy the ideas they have to offer.

Fabulous Living also offers a free assortment of patterns that you can download and print. Designs range from fairly simple to intricate and unusual. The link for these patterns is: .http://www.fabulousliving.com/index.php?option=com_resource&controller=article&category_id=273&article=21465 Disney's Family Fun site not only offers free patterns but ideas for projects using un-carved pumpkins as well. This site also has a section with tricks and carving tips for the less experienced pumpkin artist. (the link for this site appears at the bottom of this article)

If none of the above appeal to you many more free jack-o-lantern patterns and ideas can be found by doing a simple web search. If you enter "free jack-o-lantern patterns" into your search bar you should be able to find enough material to keep yourself very busy. If you have a picture or idea of your own many of these sites will show you how to create your own template and you can re-size patterns before printing them. Even if you did not find the perfect pumpkin with no blemishes you are bound to find something you can carve and enjoy. With the incredible number of patterns available you should be able to create something different from your neighbors and avoid the old standby of three triangles and a mouth with more.
