How to Find a Job in a Tough Economy

TCG CCG
When the economy gets tough finding a job is no easy task, however it's not impossible. There are a lot of tools at everyone's disposal that can help you find a job and get back on your feet. By using social networking sites, finding a group of friends with the same goals, using the correct approach during an interview, and keeping an open mind you'll be back in the work force in not time!

One major tool that has come to the attention of many job searchers is the social network boom. Sites like MySpace and facebook are great places to find potential job opportunities. Many people spend hours a day on sites like facebook and thus employers have come to realize that these sites could be a great place to find potential candidates for a specific position. Branching out and making a lot of friends on facebook and MySpace is a great way to up your chances of finding a job.

Also by leaning the ins and outs of sites like facebook and MySpace will make you seem like you really know what you're doing when it comes to technology. Many employers looking for people with technical skills will be more apt to hire someone from a social networking site. Website design for instance is a great way to earn some extra money and could lead to career options, and using an Internet resource like MySpace and facebook will give you an advantage when it comes to tech savvy jobs.

Remember that whenever you're out of work, there are going to be those that are in the same situation as you. Be sure to keep in touch with people you may have worked with before you lost your job. These people may be able to keep you updated about your previous employer's situation. If a position becomes available you'll be informed, and may receive special benefits for being previously employed by that company.

Also if there was a mass layoff, keep in touch with your co-workers. Anyone you have worked with in a career field will have the same goals in finding a new job as you. Form a group that can branch out and keep each other in mind when job opportunities become available. Former co-workers are some of the best allies you can have when searching for a new job or one that involves the same kind of work as your previous one.

Using the right approach when actually applying for a job is one of the most important steps you can take towards actually getting hired on for any position. Try to talk face to face with an employer and always hand your resume in personally. Applications that are sent through the mail are often times discarded or go unnoticed. Showing up in person shows that you are enthusiastic about the job you are applying for.

During an interview you'll of course be asked a series of questions. The best way to answer any of these questions is honestly. When asked why you are interested in this particular position just tell them why, "you've been out of work for a while and any opportunity to work is greatly appreciated and needed". A question that many employers ask is why you were let go from your previous job. Again an honest answer like "Due to the though economical times my company underwent a major down-sizing operation" would be a good answer. Just be sure that you don't give the impression that you're out to impress too much, and also don't give the impression that your were let go from your previous job for any reason other than the tough economy.

Be sure to keep an open mind when you're out looking for a job. Depending on how long you've been out of work you may want to switch tactics from looking for a specific job to looking for any job. After a while you need to do something while looking for a stable career oriented job so taking anything you can get would seem like a very good option. There is no shame in working a simple retail job or at a grocery store while still looking for something more suiting for yourself.

Everyone has and will go through rough times, but knowing how to deal with job loss is a great way of turning things around. I know how discouraging losing a job can be, and things are worse when you've been unemployed for a long period of time, but with the right kind of attitude, a little technological knowhow, and a strong group for support you can be back on your feet in no time!
