How to Find Lists of Government Grants at No Cost

Kristi Patrice Carter
Government grants are intended for private individuals and businesses. Grant money can be used for a variety of things including housing, education, small business start-up costs, home repair and debt elimination. Many people do not even know these grants exist or where to look to find information. By using the internet, you can easily find lists of government grants at no cost to you. Below are easy steps to help you on your search.

Conduct a General Search. You can start by performing a general search for lists of government grants on search engines such as Google or Yahoo. In the search field, enter 'government grants list', press enter, and watch the results load. You may have to click on each returned website to see if the list they are offering is free of charge or if they are asking for payment. Be wary of any site that asks you for your personal information or a credit card. There are legitimate sites that provide you lists of government grants at no cost.

Check out Grants.gov. Another source of information is www.Grants.gov. There is a search option that allows you to input a keyword and search for a specific type of grant. You can then read about each grant to find one that fits your needs. Each grant will have different eligibility requirements so you will need to read the details. Grants.gov has links to apply for each individual grant. All of this information is provided free of charge.

Look into the SBA.gov. You can also try the official Small Business Administration website, www.SBA.gov for a listing of grants. Grants listed on this site will be intended for small business owners. These grants can help an individual start up a small business and keep it running. This website provides the latest information on government grants designed for small business owners and other financial resources.

Visit FedMoney.org. Visit www.fedmoney.org for another free listing of government grants. You can also search for specific types of grants. The grants listed will have detailed information as to the criteria needed and the application procedures. With these guidelines you can determine which grants you are eligible for.

There are a few resources to finding free lists of government grants online. Remember, any site that requests money from you is a rip off, because with a little bit of homework, you can obtain the same information at no cost.

Whats more disturbing is that once you apply for this so called "Trial" for $1 it takes three days to get the CD and by then its $49.00 now I'm no scholar but is this really free?? I think not.

Free should mean Free not getting to the page and finding out there is a fee to get started, not even $1

I have been diligently attempting to obtain grants which I know I'm eligible to receive. There's always a fee attached which stops me cold. Maybe $1 doesn't seem like a lot but when you don't have it, it is!! These monies should be for the poor, minorities, females, disabled. The websites continuosly state the information is free but once you get involved in filling out the information you find the fee--very misleading. To the rich--how much does one person actually need in this world. Hoarding is abominable. Can't we spread it around a bit better? I'm tired and I've always tried to do the right thing, but I am so disillusioned by our government and the laws. I intend to obtain my bachelors to become more aware and educated regarding the laws and try to make a difference. Somebody's got to try.
