How to Find Local and National Independence Day Celebration Events

Looking for something to do on July 4th? Most city run events are posted in your local paper and are open to the public, especially events at local parks and beaches to watch local firework displays, but the most notable events might require a bit more planning on your part to attend. Visit the websites of each event to find out about times and parking and what streets will be closed down. The fireworks in Washington D.C, Boston HarborFest, and New York Harbor will require the most planning to get local accommodations and a good view of the show. On the Capitol lawn in D.C a free concert precedes the fireworks.

The Boston HarborFest is June 28 - July 4th. Noteworthy fireworks and the 1812 Overture will be featured.

The LibertyFest 2007 in Edmond, Oklahoma is recommended by USA Today. They will have a week long event. According to their website, they say that they will have "car shows, synchronized and lighted kite festival, a food festival, a road rally, a fun family chalk event, the parade, a concert a beauty pageant, a family celebration in the park" and a fireworks show. The 1812 Overture complete with Howitzer artillery will be presented by the Austin,Texas Symphony Orchestra.

The annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City

Provo, Utah has one of the largest Fourth of July parades.

Bristol, Rhode Island has the oldest, continuous celebration in the United States.

In James River Assembly in Ozark, Missouri, at the Springfield Underground celebrates with more than one hundred games and activities, and a four-hour fireworks show.

Minor and Major League Baseball games are also played on July 4th and the NASCAR Pepsi 400 is on July 4th or the Saturday of the Independence Day weekend.

The Sunoco Welcome America in Philadelphia, June 28-July 4, will celebrate with many activities - there is something for everyone with opera, dancing, singing, concerts, food, games and of course fireworks. There is also on June 30th a noteworthy Waterfront Concert and Fireworks before the major fireworks on actual 4th of July weekend event.
