How to Find Locations to Get a Flu Immunization Shot

M
The flu season is starting in December and runs until March. This is the time to get your flu vaccine and many flu clinics have opened. If you plan to get your flu immunization shot this season, it's a good idea to get it done early in case there is a shortage. To find a clinic in your area, here are some places to look to find out where you can go. When you go to get your vaccine make sure to bring your insurance card, your immunization record, and a prescription from your doctor if you are 65 years or older. Places vary on if you need an appointment or you can walk in, so make sure to call before going to receive your flu vaccine.

Public Health Department

The first place to look for the most inexpensive flu vaccine is the public health department. You can find flu information on most public health and human services websites. You can also call and they will probably have a listing either at the building or give you a few options over the phone.

Homeless Programs

Some homeless shelters and programs offer free flu shots. Contact some of these programs in your area to ask if they have any restrictions on who can receive a free or reduced cost flu shot.

American Lung Association

Go to Find a Flu Clinic sponsored by the American Lung Association. All you need is your zip code and a listing of pharmacies and retail stores will come up. The listing will include the store name, address, phone number, dates and times for the flu clinic. You will have to call to see how much the vaccines are and it is usually based on type of insurance.

Maxim Health Systems

Go to Find a Flu Shot sponsored by Maxim Health Systems. You will also need your zip code and a listing of retail stores will come up. This is similar to the American Lung Association flu clinic locator.

Pharmacies

Contact your local pharmacies such as Walgreens and CVS. Most of these pharmacies hold flu clinics. Again, the cost for the flu vaccine will be based on your insurance.

Newspapers

Check out your local newspaper. If you don't subscribe to your local newspaper, most can be found online and you can usually find information online about flu clinics in your area.

Physician

You can contact your doctor and some doctors will have the flu immunization shot for their patients. Many doctors only carry a limited supply so if you prefer to get it through your physician call as soon as possible to make your appointment.
