How to Find Out Why People Unfollow You on Twitter

Justin Germino
It doesn't matter whether you use twitter as a power user, casual user or to promote a business, sometimes it is good to know why someone chooses to unfollow you. Especially if you see your follower count drop in droves on particular days or weeks.

Qwitter is a service that tracks your twitter profile and sends you email updates whenever somebody unfollows you on twitter. You see what your last tweet was prior to the unfollow and sometimes this can give you insight as to what you spoke about or promoted that a particular reader or sect of readers didn't enjoy.

I am not saying you should not talk about certain things because you will lose followers, you mostly lose followers you didn't care if they were following you anyway, but if you do paid or sponsored tweets and you see followers jumping ship it may mean you are promoting products or services that don't fit what you are known for or your niche/category.

This is akin to a blogger getting updates when they lose a feed subscriber, or reader and they want to know what article or post drove a way a reader so they can determine if it was of value to include that type of article on their blog.

So if you have a Twitter profile and use it actively, I recommend you link "Qwitter" to your twitter account so you can keep tabs on when you are being unfollowed and trace it back to a specific tweet to help you identify why you are losing audience.
