Hats come in a variety of shapes and sizes you just need to find one that complements your face. You need to know what shape your face is before you pick out a hat, you don't want to get a short round hat if you have a round face, that will just bring more attention to the shape of your face and we don't want that.
The color of your hat makes a huge difference on how it will look on you. If you have a lighter complexion you don't want to a color that is going to wash you out or make you look pale and sickly. Browns are great for dark skin tones while lighter colors work better for lighter skin colors.
One of the most important things when picking out a hat is the size of the hat. Make sure the hat fits your head properly, don't get a hat that's too big and makes your head look tiny, at the same time don't get a hat that's so small it makes your head look bigger than your body.
A couple of easy tips to make sure your hat fits correctly is to make sure the hat doesn't cover the top of your ears and it doesn't fall off your head when you tilt your head down. Usually the way you will know if the hat is a good fit is if you can't feel it on your head.
To avoid "hat head" make sure your hair is pulled back out of the way, you don't want to curl your hair just to have your hat weigh down your curls. Hats look best when your hair is pulled out of the way anyways.
Make sure your hat matches your outfit, you don't want to be wearing a suit with a baseball cap or vice versa you don't want to be wearing your sports uniform with a fedora. This is common sense, but you never know what some people are thinking when they get dressed.
Is your hat on right? Yes, there is a right way and a wrong way to wear a hat. While most hats look best when worn at an angle, you have to remember not all hats do.
Sun hats look best when they are worn towards the back of your head leaving your face open, you would want to wear your fedora so that it tilts towards your eyes, giving you that mysterious look. No hat looks the same on everyone so make sure you try your hat on in different directions until you find the angle that fits you.
While in the store don't be afraid to ask other customers what they think, model for them. I own at least 70 hats, mostly fedoras; I find that while shopping for the perfect hat, in my case hats, other hat shoppers are willing to give their opinion freely even if they aren't asked.
Make your hat one of a kind, spice it up with something it that is uniquely you. Ladies add pins, brooches, flowers, feathers, or you could apply rhinestones to your hat. Just remember this is your hat so you need to make it say this is me. You can turn an everyday average hat into something that no one else has by adding your own personal flair to it.
You can turn a normal outfit into a wow outfit by adding a simple hat. It only takes a second to put a hat on and you can switch hats to make your outfit completely different without having to change clothes, so why not add a few hundred hats to your collection. Hats are fun.
