How to Find Promotional Codes and Coupons Online

Melissa B
We are probably all used to the idea of clipping coupons from our Sunday paper and adding them to out wallets and purses for use at local stores. This concept is not a new one. But what is a new idea, s using coupons on line. Not the kind of coupons you would find in your Sunday paper. As a matter of fact finding these coupons, or coupon codes, promotional code, or discount code, as they are often referred to are not always easy.

Some of these codes are "secret". You literally have to hunt for them at times, but the savings is well worth it. I mean after all, don't you go though the trouble just to save 0.25 cents of a box of cereal at your grocery store. These on line discounts are sometimes much better and can save you a lot of money!

So where do I find them?

One of the easiest ways to find these promotional codes is to search on specific sites that gather this kind of information. A few good sites for doing this are listed right here:

http://www.couponshack.com/
http://www.allfreecoupons.com/

Now, you need to take note that not all coupon codes will work. Many have "unknown" expiration dates, and the day you try to use it, it may already have passed. Some of these codes have restrictions that are not clearly marked on the site you find them on. For example, you may find promotional code for free shipping, but they may have left out that the on line merchant requires a total over $75 to be able to utilize this coupon or promotion.

With a few searches you may find that what you have in your cart may not qualify for a promotional code at this time. However, it's always worth the look. Many of these promotional codes will get you a percent off, free shipping, a free item, or upgraded shipping. Some offer standard "dollars" off coupons, and others will give you a credit for your next purchase!

How do I use a promotional coupon code?

Not every on line store allows you this option, but when you are checking out, some where between viewing the items in you cart and entering your credit card information, there will be a little box with the words "promotional code" "coupon code" "on line discount code" or something similar. This is where you enter the code you have found on the Internet.

Is there another way to find out about a certain stores promotional code?

If you have a favorite on line store, you may be able to sign up for a weekly or monthly newsletter from them. Often times they give you "exclusive" discounts and coupon codes for signing up. This way you will always know the offers available to you. Be careful though. Some of these stores will share you information with their partners and your e-mail will be flooded with stores they affiliate them selves with. Often, there is a box that you can check or unchecked to keep this from happening.

Also, go to the sites homepage, where thy will sometimes advertise a coupon code. For example on Overstock.com, last week, they had a banner that said "activate your free shipping coupon" and a link to hit. It all depends on the site though. Not everyone does that.

If you are checking out and you are leaving that box empty, you could be missing out on the opportunity to save some money. Try to find one code that suits your shopping cart, and save yourself a few dollars!
