If you're a busy parent you most likely will be faced with the choice of whether or not to put your child in a day care center while you're working. Knowing how to find a quality day care center is rather important, after all, you're looking for a place that you can trust your child with several times each week, several hours out of each day.

Make sure to visit any facility in question about three times. This will give you a good idea of what goes on there. Try and go at different time of the day so you have an idea as to the activities that take place throughout the day. Showing up more than three times might be a bit disruptive to the facility, so if you want to make multiple trips, I suggest no more than three trips.

A personal evaluation of the program is paramount. You'll want to arrive with a predetermined list of questions for the administrators and day care providers. Some common things to look for include what kind of downtime is mixed through the day, how much playtime is involved and how structured the learning is for the children.

As your progress in your quest to find a quality day care center, always make sure to meet the director or directors of the facility. Are they courteous? Are they respectful of the lifestyle you're attempting to raise your child into? Be sure to ask questions about the general philosophy of the facility. If it doesn't line up well enough with your own parental philosophy, then perhaps you should move on to another potential day care center.

Another very important thing to pay attention to is how many children vs. adults there are on the premises. Are there enough adults around to monitor and care for the children? You don't want the class sizes to be that big if there is an education wing to the day care center you're interested in. Smaller classes equal more attention given to each student. This is important.

If you happen to know some parents that have kids enrolled at the day care center you're looking at, ask them if they are happy with the facilities. You can also take some time to ask the kids themselves, if they're old enough, to see what they think. If you find that both parent and child enjoy the center, odds are that the staff is doing a good job of engaging both parent and child.

Mastering how to find a quality day care center can even come down to the most simple of things - rely on your instinct. If you walk into a facility that just gives you a bad vibe, odds are you have a good reason to feel that way. If all else fails, go with your gut.
