What do you look for in an agent? What I like to see is their track record. If an agent is able to sell many houses, then that agent knows what needs to get done to accomplish the deal. A good or experienced agent will also have great communication skills and excellent professionalism. Someone that looks annoyed by your questions or unhelpful will not be the agent you want. While you may not be able to pick up on their character by the first meeting, there may be subtle hints along the way.
Most agents will take 3% of the final selling price. This is the general percentage you will find nationally in United States. Some agents may have other percentages and you must find out before you work with him or her.
One of the most common ways to find a real estate agent is to talk to relatives and friends. Even if they have not worked with an agent in a while, they may have a friend or family that is an agent or will know of a highly esteemed one. If that does not help, then you can check the classifieds section of the newspaper or websites to assist you in your search. I would recommend googling the name of the agent you are considering to see if anyone has positive or negative reviews about this person.
The key to find a real estate agent is not settling for the first one you talk to. You must go and seek an agent that has the qualities you are looking for. Interviewing agents will help you understand the market and each one may share some tips or insider secrets that will help you finding or selling your home.
