You should establish guidelines for deciding which speakers you will purchase. If you establish guidelines and acknowledge specific needs, you will be better able to ensure that your speakers will be of high quality. Where to begin is an issue for many home theater and surround sound enthusiasts. Of course, in these times of economic uncertainty, many are concerned about how much high quality speakers will cost. If this is the case then the potential buyer has two options. First, they have the option to wait until they are certain to be able to afford high quality speakers. The second option they have is to simply get the highest quality speakers that are available in their price range.
Obviously, the most important concern is the quality of sound the speakers you purchase are capable of producing. One option, for those who can afford to do so, is to purchase THX certified products. These speakers include a certificate to prove that THX endorses the product and are usually quite expensive but are of the highest available quality. More important than name brand, however, is the buyer's own preference. Listen to many different speakers as there is a plethora of options. Then, choose the ones that provide the sound you enjoy the most.
What determines quality is preference. However, it is important to realize that low quality audio is very rarely the result of a bad compact disk. Typically, low quality audio has more to do with the speakers it is being played through.
A few things to pay attention to when determining if a set of speakers are quality are to check the range of sound, the balance of the sound, and how the speakers interact with one another. If the speakers sound like they are compensating for a bad subwoofer, you should avoid purchasing them. If playing the volume high causes significant distortion or the sound at mid-level is not clear, you should pass the speakers up. Finally, you should make sure that no one speaker is louder than the others as this can negatively impact your listening experience.
Be aware that each set of speakers is unique from the previous set of speakers. And, of course, remember that your preferences are the most important criteria by which you should decide whether or not to purchase a set of speakers.
