How to Find the Right Wedding Videographer

Aaron Sinn
When planning your wedding, one thing you might want to consider is a stunning, professionally made wedding video to help you relive your moments. Wedding videography is an often overlooked aspect of the wedding planning circus. In many people's opinions, it is far more precious than the time honored practice of photography, and for good reason! Photographers set up images. They move you and pose you like mannequins to create fabricated images. Also, it's been a long time since I've seen a photograph that could make sound.

So, bearing in mind that no photographer, no matter how good they are, can let you listen to your wedding vows ever again for the rest of your life, you've decided to hire a videographer! Good for you. Now, how do you go about actually selecting a good videographer? This can be tricky business, believe you me! There are a few simple things that you always want to keep in mind when you are doing your initial search of vendors.

1.) If they don't have a website, don't bother!

2.) If they don't have clean, clear, crisp video samples that look good to you, don't bother!

3.) An expensive videographer isn't always a talented one, just a greedy one. Shop around!

Once you've found a few videographers whose videos and prices you enjoy, you really should set up some face-to-face meetings. It is imperative that they bring actual DVD's to show you, along with a player. You want to be able to see what your final product will look like. It is a good idea to let the videographer know that you will be expecting them to bring this to the meeting. When you actually meet with your vendors, you will want to ask them a series of questions:

What kind of equipment do they use?

How will your wedding vows sound? Do they have an example for you to listen to?

How long have they been filming weddings?

Do they film weddings full time, or part time?

How long does it take them to edit?

How many cameras will they use to film the ceremony?

How many shooters do they typically use?

These are some good, base questions to ask any videographer when you meet them. If you have any other questions regarding your specific ceremony, don't be afraid to ask! Any good videographer will be more than happy to answer any and all of your questions, and should be able to answer them, too. IF a videographer cannot answer some of your questions about their shooting equipment or methods, you should probably reconsider!

Once you are convinced that the videographer you have met with will do a fantastic job, then don't be afraid to hire them on the spot! Just like photographers, their available dates will probably book up quickly!
