Shop Around
Once you find RV insurance from 2 or 3 different companies make sure to get quotes from them. To do this you will need your RV ID number, the year it was made, its make and a description of the model.
Talk To Your Current Insurance Agent
Remember to talk to your insurance agent. You may get a volume discount when you purchase your RV insurance from the same company that you get your homeowner's or car insurance.
RV Insurance To Cover Add-Ons
Make sure that your RV insurance covers additional items such as awnings, generators, satellites and solar panels. These are the things that make it more comfortable to live in your RV but they are costly so you will want to find RV insurance that covers these items.
On-The-Road Coverage
You will want to be sure that your RV insurance covers expenses that you may encounter while you are on the road such as repairs and towing. This is important because you will be away from home most of the time when you are using your RV.
Living In Your RV Full-Time
Understand that there is a difference between RV insurance and full-time RV insurance. If you plan to live in your RV full-time you will need to have a special policy written that includes higher liability. It is important to be honest here because if you are traveling and get into a wreck whereby your RV is totaled and your RV insurance company learns that you are living in your RV full-time, they will not pay your claim and you will be out of an RV.
Coverage For Traveling Out-Of-Country
You will need more insurance if you will be traveling to Canada or Mexico. Before crossing the border, make sure that you are covered.
Total-Loss Replacement
When purchasing a brand new RV, get total-loss replacement coverage in case your RV becomes a total loss during the first 6 years that you own it. With this RV insurance you will get a brand new model, even if it costs more than the RV that you lost.
While there is definitely a lot to think about whenever you are trying to find RV insurance, it doesn't mean that getting RV insurance has to be difficult. It just means that you need to take your time and think everything through. Doing so will ensure that you get the right coverage at a price that you can afford.
