How to Find Someone on Facebook

Almost everyone is on Facebook nowadays. If you have been hiding under a rock, you may not know that Facebook is one of the largest networking websites, dedicated to linking people together through friends lists, high school alumni, user groups, and fan pages. Facebook is a great place to keep in touch with people who are already in your life, but people also use Facebook to find people they have lost touch with. Chances are, your old high school boyfriend or girlfriend is on Facebook. Maybe you are looking for an old friend or someone you used to work with to see if they are on Facebook. Here is how to look for someone on Facebook if you don't have all their current information.

Log into your Facebook account, firstly. Then, on the top right of your Facebook Home Page, you will see a search box. Type in the person's name there.

Then, Facebook will pull up the search results. However, it will begin by searching your Facebook Network first. Say you live in New York City. Facebook will search all the people with the name you searched who live in NYC first. If you know the person doesn't live in New York, you can go to the drop down menu where it says "search all networks", and where it says "other network", you can type in the city you think your Facebook contact is from (if you know).

If you don't know the city where the Facebook contact you are searching for lives, go to other network again. You can also type in a school, job, or religion in the box to pull up more information. If you know what school they went to, type that in and they may be part of a Facebook Alumni group.

Also, if you have the names of any friends of the person you are searching for, maybe they are on Facebook. Search for people who may know your future Facebook contact, then you can search through their Facebook friends to see if the person you are looking for is one of their Facebook contacts.

Another option to find someone on Facebook, if you can't find their network, is to think of some groups they may belong to. Perhaps they are a huge Michael Jackson fan and the last place they lived was in California. You could do a search for Facebook groups under "Michael Jackson Fans in California" then do a search by first name of all the people in that Facebook group to see if the person you are looking for shows up.

If you really want to find someone on Facebook, you can also do a search by first name and Facebook network. It will bring up a million results, but you may just get lucky.

Lastly, you can do a Facebook Profile Search, which is a way to find people on Facebook. The only drawback of that is that it only searches for people on Facebook within your networks or friends - which limits the search.

One of your best chances of finding people on Facebook is to add as many acquaintances as possible, and through six degrees of separation, you are bound to find that Facebook contact you have been searching for!
