How to Find Tennessee Tourism Information Online and Locally

Gayle Crabtree

Are you planning to travel or relocate? This article puts Tennessee tourism information at your fingertips. A general destination idea is all that you need to get started. From there, finding tourism information is as easy as clicking a mouse.

The internet is an obvious treasure trove to plunder. The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development is a primary tourism source for attractions all across the state. This department maintains the TN Vacation.com website. From this site, visitors can order brochures or find a toll-free number to call. A few clicks of the mouse instantly brings tourism information to your browser.

Another good source for Tennessee tourism information is the state parks section of Tennessee.gov. One visit here and it is easy to see why these parks were designated 'Best in the Nation'. Online visitors can find out about the state parks, make campground reservations and find out about special programs.

Don't forget the local chamber listings for Tennessee. The Chamber of Commerce can provide visitors with tourism maps, fliers and brochures. These folks love where they live and are usually happy to load tourists down with information. Tennessee.org is the website you need to find out everything about your city of interest.

Where would we be without a local Convention and Tourism Bureau? They are often called tourist bureaus or visitor centers. Staff at these organizations have the scoop on all the local attractions. If you want to know about festivals or events these are the people to ask.

Not every city has a bureau but most do. Find out about these Tennessee tourism resources by searching 'convention and tourism bureau (insert city name)' online.

Are you looking for farmers markets or other agritourism sites? Pick Tennessee Products is the best source for agriculture sites on the web. Visitors to the website www.picktnproducts.org can find out about local farmers markets, hours of operation and get directions. Links to county fairs and equine resources complete the site.

Another source of Tennessee tourism is cheap and easily found. Look in almost any store, gas station or supermarket across the state to find a local newspaper. This is an often overlooked source of local tourist information.

Articles and community listings highlight area attractions and will often have directions and full details on local events. They are cheap, easily found and can cost less than a parking meter.

If you are driving into Tennessee don't forget to stop at a welcome center. While you are there be sure to pick up a free state map. Welcome centers frequently have attraction or motel coupons to help tourists save money.

Researching about Tennessee tourism is almost as much fun as visiting, but not quite.
