The first step of managing your time is always to keep track of what you already spend your time on. Do you have time available someplace that you weren't consciously aware of? Many people tend to underestimate how much free time they have in a given week. It may be that just be analyzing what you do each day for a week will give you enough insight to fit in that reading you've been desperately wanting to start. Simply keep a notebook on you at all times during the day for a full week, and write down what you are doing on an hour by hour basis.
Even if this method fails and it turns out that you really are as busy as you thought you were, you still may be able to fit in some reading anyway. After all, the benefits of having read a number of books is literally invaluable, so it's worth it to do whatever is needed to find time for those books you've been missing out on.
Audio books are books that you can listen to via an audio file. "Reading" books via your ears rather than your eyes may seem weird at first, but it is a great way to ensure that you can fit in reading at times when you may not have otherwise had free time. By using audio books, you can read while in the car, while cooking, while taking public transportation or even while working out. Most people have many hours available each week while they are doing other things that they can take advantage of audio books. It is, in short, the perfect solution to the person who is just too busy to read with their eyes.
If you decide to try audio books, remember that the reader makes a huge difference in the quality of the book. Most open source audio books have book readers that aren't specifically trained in the art, though there are, of course, a number of exceptions. You will find better book readers if you turn to commercial audio book sellers, sometimes even with the authors reading themselves. Just keep in mind that just because someone is a good author doesn't make them a good audio book reader.
Whatever method you choose, just remember to do your best to start reading more. Other pleasures in life are usually temporary, but reading a good book is a lasting pleasure.

Post a CommentReading a good book IS a lasting pleasure, as you say. The intimate encounter with another (artistic) mind that a book provides is often an unshakable experience. Even after the plot details fade away, a sense of having gone somewhere new remains.
