So when you have a SharePoint 2007 server farm you want to make sure that if you ever patch, modify, or apply hot fixes to one server in the SharePoint farm you do it to all of the servers at the same time. Otherwise you will run into the same problem I did and you will need to find out what version your servers are and try to patch them all to the same level. First step is to find what version your SharePoint 2007 software is at you can do this by following these steps:
1 - Open Central Admin
2 - Click Operations
3 - Click Servers in Farm
4 - Write down the Database Version number
5 - Repeat steps 1 - 4 on all SharePoint 2007 servers in your farm
Next you will want to verify that the Database Schema Version of your servers in your farm matches the sites in your farm. To check the version of the SharePoint content database follow these steps:
1 - Open the site (via URL or hostname:portnumber)
2 - If not logged into the site, login with admin rights
3 - Click Site Actions Button
4 - Click Site Settings
5 - Click Modify All Site Settings
6 - Write down the Version number
7 - Repeat steps 1 to 6 for all websites
The version number of the site content database should match your server farm version number. It's a good idea to make sure your Server and Database versions match because if they don't you have to do an upgrade to the Database before you can apply any newer patches. That is all there is to finding out which version of SharePoint 2007 you are running in your environment.
There are other methods to find these version numbers, but this is the easiest method for me, I hope you find it helpful.
