How to Make Finger Paint for Kids Crafts

ChristyL
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup cold water
3/4 cup cold water
2 cups boiling water
small jars (empty baby food jars work great)
food coloring

Preparation:
In a saucepan, mix cornstarch with 3/4 cup cold water til it makes a smooth paste. In bowl, soak gelatin in 1/4 cup of cold water and set it aside until ready to use. Pour the boiling water into the cornstarch mixture, stirring constantly. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils and looks clear. Remove from heat. Stir in gelatin. Let cool. Divide into jars. Stir in coloring until well blended. Makes 2 1/2 cups. Paints dry quickly. Use on wet or dry papers. It will keep in the refrigerator for a few days.

This is a great way to entertain bored kids in the summer, on weekends, or holidays. Great for rainy days or snow days. Kids love creating their own art and being able to show it off, so make a celebration of displaying their favorite or best pieces in places of "honor". Even adults can have fun getting messy with the kids.
