In today's uncertain economy, many people are looking to further their education in hopes of retaining their job or finding a new one. Getting your college degree online can provide you with the flexibility to continue job hunting or working while you finish your college degree.

What You Need to Finish Your College Degree Online

You need a computer or access to a computer. Most local libraries have a computer lab that provides free internet access. While you can finish your college degree online with dial-up access, high-speed access will allow you to spend less time on schoolwork.

How Much Time Does it Take to Get Your College Degree Online?

Each online class will have its own requirements. You are expected to learn the same amount of information you would learn in a classroom. Plan to spend at least one hour per day logged in to your online class. You will spend this time reading assignments and posting to the discussion board to fulfill your participation requirement. You will also spend several hours each week reading your textbook and completing homework.

Homework Requirements When Getting a Degree Online

Your online instructor wants you to participate in the class. Each online class has a discussion board. Your instructor will outline his or her expectations for discussion participation in the class syllabus. Usually, you are required to answer a set number or discussion questions and reply to a set number of other student's posts. In addition to the discussion board homework, there may be papers to write and worksheets to complete.

Exams When Getting a College Degree Online

Exams are typically taken online. This means they will be open book exams. That may sound easy, but the exams are comprehensive and many of them are timed. If you have not reviewed the material prior to the exam, it is difficult to find the exact answer to the exam question even with your notes and book available to you.
