When going to your Home Center to purchase all the material, I recommend that you get the fiberglass mesh tape with adhesive backing for the drywall inside corners. This will speed up the work and also make for a stronger bond. It will also eliminate the possibility of bubbles foaming underneath the tape, which is a common occurrence with paper tape.
Material and Tools:
Joint Compound
Joint Compound Tub
Mesh Fiberglass Tape
Steel Corner Beads
6" Drywall Knife
Corner Trowel
Drywall Sanding Block
Hammer
Drywall Nails
Dust Mask
Step1:
For your inside corners fold fiberglass tape in half and apply it to all the inside corners. Use corner trowel to make sure tape is firmly seated in the corner.
Step2:
For your outside corners nail up your steel beads using drywall nails. Make sure nails go into the corner studs on both sides. Use enough nails so that corner is firmly nailed to drywall.
Step3:
Place some joint compound in plastic tub and using your 6" knife apply joint compound to your inside corners. Use your corner trowel to smooth out the joint compound in the inside corners. Use your 6" knife to smooth out remaining joint compound on each side of inside corner.
Step4:
Using your 6" knife apply joint compound to both side of outside corners. Smooth out both sides for an even finish.
Step5:
After joint compound is completely dry, start sanding all your work using sanding block. Wear your dust mask for all sanding.
Step6:
Inspect all work and apply touch ups where it's necessary. Wait for it to dry and then sand.
