When going to your Home Center to purchase all the material, I recommend that you get the fiberglass mesh tape with adhesive backing for the drywall joints. This will speed up the work and also make for a stronger joint. It will also eliminate the possibility of bubbles foaming underneath the tape, which is a common occurrence with paper tape.
Material and Tools:
Joint Compound
Joint Compound Tub
Mesh Fiberglass Tape
10" or 12" Drywall Knife
Drywall Sanding Block
Dust Mask
Step1:
Apply fiberglass mesh tape to all drywall joints.
Step2:
Add joint compound to plastic tub. With 10" drywall knife apply joint compound to all joints, using the knife to spread and even it out. Make sure you overlap the tape by at least a few inches on both sides.
Step3:
After joint compound is completely dry, use sanding block to smooth out until the joint blends in with the drywall and looks like one continuous wall. Wear a dust mask for the sanding process.
Step4:
Check all the joints and do any touch ups that may be required.

Post a CommentI can never leave well enough alone, and have a tendency to sand too much, and have to fix it. You think I'd have learned after the third time.
