How to Fire Your Buyer's Agent

There are as many different personalities out in the world as there are people. Not everyone can satisfy everyone - so it's ok if you run into someone you don't completely bond with.

There are also real estate agents out there have unethical business practices, which unfortunately makes the majority of real estate agents look poorly.

There are, however, several great agents out there and if you're working with one of the "others," it might be in your best interests to fire your agent and work with someone who will better suit your needs on a personal level.

Here are some signs that it might be time to fire your agent and look for another one.

If you see the name pop up on your caller ID, and you roll your eyes and let it go to voicemail, than obviously this relationship is not working out for you.

If you try to reach your real estate agent, only to never receive a return phone call, then time is wasting and you might be missing out on your home.

If you continuously try to set up appointments on properties, only to be met with disappointment when the property goes under agreement before you got there, then it's a bad situation for you.

How do you fire your agent? It doesn't have to be hard.

Call them up, and be pleasant. Ask politely to cancel your buyer contract. Most real estate agents value their reputation, and chances are they will honor your request.

If that doesn't work, call and speak to the broker of their company. Real estate brokers have a lot at stake if they get a bad name out in the public, you will most likely not have any problems getting your contract cancelled.

Make sure you ask for a copy of this in writing, to protect yourself in case of unfortunate events in the future. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

Make sure you don't fire your agent for the wrong reasons though. In a fluctuating market like we have today, even the best agents that work hard are running into problems with other agents and clients. Real estate today is not as easy as it was even just a short year or two ago.

Buying a house is supposed to be a pleasant experience, don't make it worse by working with the wrong agent. This is your time, and your money, make sure you protect yourself and work with an agent that will represent all of your needs.
