How to Fix Bad Hair Days in the Summer

Do You Want Humidity Proof Hair?

Summer weather often results in bad hair days. Looking in mirror midday may be surprising. Puffy, frizzy hair may appear completely unruly. There are ways to tame hair of all textures without extensive styling or a great expense. Here are some tips on coping with bad hair days.

Natural Hair Styles

Many women do not have hair that resists heat and humidity. Hair that is naturally wavy, curly, or kinky may not last long if it is flat ironed or pressed. If wearing the hair straight is preferred use anti humectants flat ironing serums. Stay away from heat protectants and serums that contain water. If there is water as one of the first ingredients look for a different product for flat ironing and blow drying. Wearing a thin elasticized headband or non cotton head scarf while working out is a great way to keep the edges from reverting. Take a few moments to prepare the hair for situations where the body is likely to sweat. Sweat on the back or neck can cause the ends to revert back to curly.

Wash and Go

Wearing the hair curly may take a bit of practice. Many hair textures can easily wash and go. Kinky hair textures can use eco styler gel, Kinky Curly Curling Custard, or a heavy weight curling cream to produce a fast style out of the shower. Shingle the hair by running the product through in sections with a comb, Denman brush, or the hands helps to define kinks or curls. The hair can drip dry to avoid further frizz. A diffuser can be used to dry the hair without disturbing the curly pattern. Gently hold the hair with the hands or clips while defusing to elongate the hair.

Short Hair Wigs

Some wig styles can feel extremely hot if they are too long. Short hair wigs in a breathable cap is a great alternative to wearing a longer wig or having extensions sewn or clipped in. Consider wearing a wig style that does not have much contact with the back, neck, or face. Think about which areas of the body are bothered by hair. For some women the heat sensitive area may be the back, neck, or face.

Using the right products can help a blow out or flat ironed straight style last days longer. Women with naturally curly or wavy hair can experiment with curly wash and go styles. Wanting a break from styling hair is okay. Consider short hair wigs on extremely hot and humid summer days to avoid having to style the hair.

Our Indiana humidity plays havoc with my hair, which is slightly wavy and has a mind of its own anyway! Thanks for the summer hair care tips.
