Warning this is for advanced computer specialist or very desperate computer users... I do not take responsibility for anything you do to your laptop these are just helpful instructions to most laptops! So what ever you do you do at your own risk! Again this job is for a professional.

You finally want to tackle the job of fixing that bad power jack on your laptop? Will you have come to the right place this is not a detailed step by step but more of a run down on how to get the job done and what you are looking for and the usual process of doing it, Which is almost the same on every laptop, So let's get started...

1. Un-plug the laptop and remove the battery.

I highly recommend leaving the laptop un-plugged for a while without the battery just so you know there isn't no charge built up in the laptop, I have never had it happen but always safe then sorry.

2. Remove all screws from the bottom of the laptop & panels.

Make sure to also remove smaller screws from where the battery was located and the rest are usually easily seen from the bottom of the case, Remember to put the screws in a bowl you know that is just for the bottom of the laptop!

3. Remove the laptop Ram Memory Chips.

They usually come in a pair and are easily removed by pushing the metal things on the side outward and they pop straight up and out.

4. Remove hard drive.

Most hard drives either are held in with two screws and pull straight out or you remove a cover and slide the hard drive out that is connected to a silk ribbon.

5. Flip laptop over and push the screen flat or tilted back to expose the keyboard.

This is just to make it easier to access the inside components of your laptop and 99% of the time the monitor never needs to be removed to get to the mother board.

6. Remove the small plastic strip above the function keys.

This is just a strip of plastic that usually hides the screws that hold the keyboard in place it comes up easily if you pry it with a small flat head screw driver or maybe a butter knife, Be gentle not to brake this or scrap up the unit.

7. Remove the screws holding the keyboard in place.

These screws are very small and easy to loose make sure you put them in a bowl or a safe place where you know what they are.

8. Remove Keyboard.

Most keyboards are very easy to remove usually you just take the screws out and pry a little on the top if it's held in place and the keyboard will come up, Next you will have to remove the little electric strip this can be easily done by sliding the little black or brown plastic upwards on each side some don't even have that they just snap in place! So take your time on it and figure out how it removes.

This will be your last step if you can see where your Ac/Jack is and if there is a wire that run's to the board that means you have a jack that is easy to replace most Toshiba models have this kind of jack so you will not need to soldier it back on your mother board you just have to un-snap it from the mother board and replace the jack and your down, Just reverse the steps from here. If you do not see a red black multiple wires that run to your Ac/Jack and it is in fact connected to your mother board continue from here!

9. Remove all screws you can find.

This is more of a hung and remove situation your goal is to remove as many as possible and keep track of where they went almost all the screws on the laptop are the same size accept the keyboard & bottom where the battery use to be, Make sure not to take off the CPU screws those stay ON! Those are marked with a #1 #2 #3 #4. On a metal base that is attached with a fan.

10. Remove Video Card if any or any wires that snap to the mother board that are on top.

Some are built in and do not need to be removed if it appears that it is not attached to the top case and can be removed with the mother board then continue on if not remove it and set it aside. You can tell the video card it usually has two screws and is medal, Do not get this mixed up with the CPU Cooler you do not want to remove that!

11. Pull Cd rom / Dvd Drive Out

This is easily done by pushing on it the screw that hold's it in should already be removed because it was one of the one's on the bottom that had like a little lock on it.

12. Remove any panels that cover the mother board on top.

13. Remove mother board screws.

Again this is more of a search and find thing and maybe try to lift the board slowly but not high enough to break anything to see if the board is loose enough to be removed and the screws are all gone.

14. Remove any extra wires connecting possible USB connections.

You will clearly be able to see these they are usually held in with one screw and can be removed by just pulling on the plug and setting it aside.

15. Remove the mother board.

16. Remove Ac/Jack with soldier gun should be two soldier spots.

Just heat it up and wiggle the jack tell it comes out, Only if you got a new one! Most jack's can usually be repair by just adding new soldier to where it disappeared on the board from being plugged in and out so much, I would have to say 95% of all systems can be fixed without replacing the whole jack but they are cheap and can be found online for maybe $10 dollars and if your going to go thru this much work why not replace it right???

17. Replace with new Ac/Jack and soldier back terminals and side grounds.

18. Reverse the process of what you just did.

Tips & Hints

Use a Digital Camera to either record with video of what your doing or just take a picture of the unit every time you remove a wire or a panel so you know where everything goes & if you are having problems you just go back to the video or picture and you can't go wrong this way! I highly highly recommend you doing this if you are un-sure or not you can do this project it will save you so much time and money.

Always use the right tool's and safety measure's when working with electronics if you are using a soldiering gun do the same you do not want to hurt your self.

A great tip is keep the screws for the bottom in one bowl, And the screws for the top of the unit in another that way you have no problem remembering what screws go where.

Take your time when working with the mother board do not do this project on carpet or anywhere static electricity can easily ruin a motherboard or a hard drive. Be careful! Again this job should be left to a professional.

Make sure you check your Power Chord before attempting to do this project you might spend hours of your time doing this project and might do it 100% correct and to find out it was a $20 dollar bad power chord. Just borrow a friends chord or buy a new one it's cheaper in the long run!

Will I hope this has been helpful in your journey to fixing that bad power plug A/c Jack remember this work on almost any laptop from Toshiba, Dell, Acer , and many others it's all the same process really I tell you.

Worst case scenario if you get stumped on some thing research it on your favorite search engine by typing the model of your laptop and how to fix power plug a/c jack. I am sure there is information out there you are not the only one that has had this problem it can be fixed I promise you that & you can save money if you think you are talented enough to fix it your self. Take care and God bless.
