How to Fix Your Computer Shut-down Problems

Lance Esondi
Computers at some point or another tend to mess up and cause you problems. There are hundreds of common problems that you should have a basic knowledge of so you can fix them when you encounter them. One problem that sometimes comes up is that your computer simply won't shut down. It's running but won't go through the shutdown procedures. What are some ways of fixing this problem?

The most common scenario most face is that there was an error or glitch that leaves the system unresponsive. You can't go to the shut down button on the screen because the mouse won't move anymore. If this happens to you, simply find the power button on the computer and hold it down until it shuts off. This will take a few seconds but is very effective.

It's not the best way of shutting down a machine, but it's the only solution for a computer that won't respond. Once your computer boots up again, it's a good idea to immediately restart so everything in the system will save properly and you can avoid a software-related shutdown problem that could be there.

Sometimes the shutdown problems are caused by other things than an error. Sometimes there is malicious software on your machine that is preventing you from shutting down or your computer might have a hard time turning off as it tries to shut down. In this case, you will need to remove that software from your machine.

Run virus and malware scans on your machine to get these off your system as quickly as possible. Once gone, they won't disrupt the shutdown process, letting you take back control of your machine. Keep yourself protected to prevent these problems.
