One of the major malfunctions of smoke alarm is continuous beeping without any presence of smoke or heat. In this case, you shouldn't turn off the smoke alarm completely, because this would leave your home unprotected in case of fire and, by the way, this is illegal.
First of all, you should check the batteries. Most of the time smoke alarms continue to beep and signal because they are low on batteries. You should change them and the problem should be solved. However, if the problem remains, you should contact a technician for assistance.
Secondly, bugs and insects, which are trapped in the smoke alarm, can cause it to beep and alarm. Dirt can also be the cause of this problem. Moreover, it can block the smoke alarm's sensors and prevent it from working correctly. Always clean the dust and dirt from your alarm on regular basis to ensure safety. Try to keep the house away from insects; this will help your alarm to work correctly.
Thirdly, check the wires. They can be beaten up and working incorrectly. However this only applies for AC or AC/DC alarms. If the wires are desolated, the smoke alarm will make a synchronic beeping sound. In this case, you should call a proper specialist; you don't want to deal with wiring if you are inexperienced.
Correct installation of a smoke alarm is very important if you want to prevent common problems. It should be installed on the ceiling or on the wall far from big objects in order for them not to block the alarm.
All in all, if you want to avoid problems like continuous beeping, you should check your smoke alarm's batteries; clean it every few months, this way you won't have any difficulties with it and be safe from danger of fire.
